One of the key achievements of our time is that that life expectancy has continued to rise. According to the UN, the number of people older than 60 increased from 5% to 9% between 1970 and 2011 and will climb to 20% by 2050.  Our current model of care is coming under increasing pressure to adapt to the needs of our growing ageing population.
